However, Samsung is adding an additional step for objects recognized as the moon, which introduces new data from other high-resolution lunar images to correct the moon in the final captured image.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s just not something that Samsung hasn’t made clear in its advertising or product marketing, which can confuse customers.
The problem with this process, and why a debate exists, is how it affects the future of photography.
In short, the final image does not represent what the sensor detected and the algorithm processed. It represents an idealized version of what might be possible, but that’s not because the sensor and camera lens are too small.
The looming battle for realism
From our point of view, the key principle of iPhone photography has always been realism and precision. While there’s a perfect middle ground of saturation, sharpness, and exposure, Apple has tended to move closer to the middle over the past decade, though it hasn’t always remained perfectly consistent.
