There are cases to put on your iPhone, and then there are cases to put your iPhone on. Bellroy’s all-weather phone pocket is the second designed to protect it from drops, water and dirt.
The All-Conditions Phone Pocket is a former Bellroy product that has recently been relaunched with a fresh fit and finish. It looks clean and modern, but it’s designed to get dirty.
It starts with a water resistant leather shell and extends to the water resistant Aquaguard zipper around the half case.
Inside are card slots and a slot for a phone the size of an iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro, although it can accommodate other brands of smartphones.
The wallet case protected its contents well in our hands, but it also fitted well with some of the things we wanted to keep protected.
All-weather phone pocket
Bellroy sells two versions of the All-Conditions Phone Pocket, one that will fit an iPhone 14 and one that will fit a Plus or Max version of the iPhone. We opted for the standard size.

There is a slot on the inner right side intended for a phone. Our iPhone 14 Pro case with Mujjo slipped into the stretchy pocket and rested just under the top zipper.
On the opposite side of the phone are three slots: one for cards, one for folded bills, and one at the top for coins or a key. There is a cord to attach a key, so that it does not fall.
The idea of a key loop is clever, but in practice we didn’t have a single key to use, so the loop got in the way, taking up space in that top area.
The water-resistant leather on the outside felt nice to the touch. The zipper, however, was difficult to open in one smooth motion.
iPhone 14 Pro inside phone pocket
It’s a compromise to have a zipper that’s protected against water but also easy to pull back and forth. It worked well enough for us to hedge against “all conditions”.
If you just need a phone wallet, the less smooth zipper can be annoying to deal with.
We liked the All-Conditions phone pocket not only for weather protection, but also for fitness and exercise.
Bellroy cites a lot of inspiration for this new cycling-derived model. For us, it worked. It was nice not to worry about sweating on the phone pocket after a run.
Besides sweating on the product, we sprayed it with a garden hose. We saw no leaks in the internal space and felt confident in its ability to withstand moisture.
We don’t know how it would handle a drop to the bottom of a pool or lake – and we wouldn’t want to risk that scenario.
All-weather map pocket
Similar to the phone pocket, Bellroy also features an all-weather map pocket. It’s a miniature version of the Phone Pocket, essentially.
Key loop on map pocket
We found that the same advantages and disadvantages were intact in this smaller version.
The zipper can be difficult to open or close in one motion. Likewise, opening the card pocket wide enough to jam cards and cash inside could be tricky.
Likewise, we weren’t convinced that a key loop was necessary, as it took up space in the upper area of the rooms.
Overall, the all-weather card pocket protects cash and cards from sweat, rain, or various types of dirt.
What protection does your phone need?
If you’re looking for a wallet case for your iPhone, we really like this one. However, there are a few caveats that don’t make this a universal recommendation.
At $109, it’s a premium option. There are cheaper choices. But this Phone Pocket should last a while based on our experience with other Bellroy products. Additionally, the company offers a three-year warranty.
Sealing the phone pocket well and protecting the contents there are trade-offs, and it may require a bit of force to open and close the zipper.
If you like the idea of protecting yourself against the elements but don’t need a case to hold a phone, the Card Pocket is also a solid choice.
