–Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is showing “signs of improvement” as he remains in critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest during Monday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, the team announced Wednesday.
Although the 24-year-old remains sedated in intensive care, Hamlin’s marketing representative Jordon Rooney said he was moving in “a positive direction”, although a timeline for his recovery was unknown.
Three days after Hamlin collapsed and was revived at Paycor Stadium, support continues to pour in for the Bills’ sophomore safety from around the world.
President Joe Biden said he spoke “at length” with Hamlin’s parents. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow said his team is backing the Bills “100 percent in what they want to do going forward” with the game postponed. Fans donated millions of dollars.
“It’s been amazing. It’s made a difficult situation a little bit easier,” said Rooney on behalf of the Hamlin family. “They are very grateful. They are always giving to others, so for so many people to join them, they keep saying how grateful they are.”

OPINION: ESPN’s immediate coverage of the Damar Hamlin situation strikes the right tone.
Hamlin passed out after what appeared to be a routine tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins in the first quarter on Monday. He initially got up after the hit, but fell back down the field. He was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center near Bengals Stadium after “his heartbeat was restored on the field,” the Bills said.
Here is the latest information available on Hamlin as of Thursday:
Jets DB looking for Hamlin jersey to wear during week 18 pre-game
New York Jets star rookie defenseman Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner tweeted wednesday that he’s looking for a Damar Hamlin jersey to wear ahead of his team’s Week 18 game on Sunday against the Dolphins in Miami.
Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin tweeted the response: “We got you!”
Gardner responded that he appreciated Rubin’s offer and asked that he send it to the Jets’ facility.
Fans have announced that profits from sales of Hamlin’s shirts will also be donated to the foundation.
Pro Football Focus tweeted that Hamlin’s shirt was one of the top sellers this week.

Zac Taylor shares what Sean McDermott told him backstage
ESPN cameras captured Bengals head coach Zac Taylor and Bills head coach Sean McDermott talking on several occasions while Monday’s game was temporarily suspended. Taylor did not reveal what was said in full, but he did reveal that the focus was not on football after Hamlin was rushed to the hospital.
“When I got there, the first thing (Sean McDermott) said was that I needed to be in the hospital with Damar. I shouldn’t be coaching this game. That to me provides all the clarity,” Taylor said. “In that moment he really showed who he was. His whole focus was just on Damar, being there for him, being there for his family at the hospital. At that point, everything was trending to where it needed to be trending. The right decisions were made there.”
When will the Bills-Bengals game resume?
On Tuesday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the Bills-Bengals game would not resume this week. On Wednesday, the league began discussions about when it would be played.
“Everything is being considered,” NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent said during a conference call.
The league has not made any changes to the Week 18 regular season schedule. The Bengals will host the Ravens while the Bills will host the Patriots, both scheduled for 1:00 pm ET on Sunday.
Jeff Miller, executive vice president of communications, public affairs and policy for the NFL, said a decision would be made “in the coming days”.
Joe Burrow: ‘We’re with them 100 percent’
The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback said he’s open to finishing the game against the Bills while the NFL sorts out the schedule, but he said he ultimately supports whatever the Bills see fit.
“I think it would be difficult, just in terms of scheduling,” Burrow said. “I think whatever Buffalo wants to do, we would like to do. We are behind them 100 percent in what they want to do going forward.”
Burrow and his Bengals teammates consoled Bills players during Hamlin’s on-field medical emergency, and Burrow and Bengals captains visited Bills players in their locker room before the game was postponed.
Burrow made it clear that the Bengals “didn’t want to go back there” before the game was called. He added, “I wanted them to know that we felt the same way they did.”
What happened to Damar Hamlin?
Hamlin tackled Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins after a 13-yard gain during the Bills-Bengals Monday Night Football matchup. The play appeared to be routine. Hamlin got up afterwards, but collapsed to the floor with 5:58 left in the first quarter.
An ambulance was brought to the field. Hamlin was treated with CPR and an AED to restore his heartbeat on the field, while players on both teams created a human shield around Hamlin while first responders worked to resuscitate him. Hamlin was then placed on a stretcher before being transported to the hospital.
The game was temporarily suspended – an hour and five minutes after Hamlin collapsed – postponed.
It was later revealed that Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest. But what is cardiac arrest and how could it have happened to Hamlin?
