PDP raises concern when Clark and Ortom endorse Obi

The People’s Democratic Party said the endorsement of Labor Party presidential candidate Peter Obi by senior statesman and leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, Chief Edwin Clark, on Tuesday further confirmed that the party must reconcile with the five offended governors.

The party’s deputy national publicity secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said this in an interview with the punch on Tuesday as he reacted to Clark’s endorsement.

Clark announced the endorsement at a press conference in Abuja just 48 hours after a similar endorsement by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He said it was fair and just that the South produced the next president after eight years of the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

He revealed that he had previously directed the national leadership of the Pan Niger Delta Forum to meet with Obi in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on 23 December 2022.

He said after being informed about the successful outcome of the interaction; he took note of some remarks that led to the endorsement.

Clark said: “Considering all these factors and putting His Excellency Peter Obi side by side with all the other candidates put forward by other political parties, I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that our country, Nigeria, has a great opportunity to elect a phenomenal team. , the Labor Party candidate, and his deputy, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmad, as president and vice-president, respectively.

“I formally announce that I will therefore personally vote for Peter Obi and his Vice Presidential Candidate on Election Day, 25th February 2023, as President and Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

PDP reacts

PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary Abdullahi said the party must reconcile with the offended governors.

He said: “We should be able to get our house in order in the next few days, and the first step is to rekindle our relationship with the five governors. If it happens in our favor, I’ll be the happiest person.

“If Peter Obi is getting this first endorsement from a former president who was the most celebrated and relevant former president alive, and it is corroborated by another South-South leader who is believed to be the president of the South-South Forum, then it will confirm for you that Peter Obi could be the surprise this country is waiting for because it clearly looks like we should go to the second ballot and that second ballot will determine what happens.

“Peter Obi’s endorsement by Chief Edwin Clark is a testament to the strength of the impact that Peter Obi is making with his presidential candidacy. It is a confirmation that we may be heading towards what we call a political Armageddon of some kind.”

Ortom supports Obasanjo

Meanwhile, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom also on Tuesday backed Obasanjo’s endorsement of Obi.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser for Media and Publicity, Terver Akase, entitled ‘Governor Ortom Supports Obasanjo’s Endorsement of Peter Obi’, the Governor noted that the former President was right in his choice of Obi as the right candidate. to win the election and provide the leadership Nigerians want.

Ortom said that had he not been a member of the PDP, PDP, he would have personally led Obi’s campaign across the country.

The statement read: “He (Ortom) is convinced that Obi possesses the qualities of a leader who will be a true President of this country, ensuring justice, fairness and equity for all Nigerians.

“He says the president Nigeria needs at this challenging time in the country’s history must be one who understands the urgent need to unite the people and quickly initiate policies and actions to redirect the nation’s ship on the path of growth and development, and emphasizes that Peter Obi has all these qualities.”
