Franchise plans? And the filmmakers have revealed that the terrifying epic, due for release on January 6th, could become a franchise, as there’s already “talk” about a sequel.

Fans got a first look at the sinister doll, built to look like a little girl, in a trailer that shows Gemma bringing home M3GAN for Cady with the intention of uniting the two.

Pairing starts as soon as Gemma instructs Caty to place two fingers in the middle of M3GAN’s palm.

M3GAN (voiced by Amie Donald) vows never to harm Cady as the men watch from an observation room behind a one-way mirror.

In an amusing montage, all seems well between Cady and her new down-to-earth friend, as they are seen dancing together at home.

Gemma reminds M3GAN that their main directive is to ‘protect Cady from harm, both physical and emotional.

However, things get darker when the trailer cuts to a scene of a neighborhood boy picking on Cady in the woods.

M3GAN suddenly appears behind him and he is confused as to just ‘what’ she is, when the doll orders him to ‘run’ before chasing him oncoming traffic, resulting in instant death.

Gemma confronts M3GAN as she plays the piano, and out of nowhere, the once-friendly robot grabs Gemma’s head and slams it against a table.

As she continues to deviate from her directive, M3GAN eventually begins to wreak havoc on the world outside the walls of Cady’s home.

She is seen stealing a sports car before confronting a man (Ronny Chieng) in a hallway, where she stuns him while performing some funky dance moves.

She then grabs a large machete and flies at the man with a machete in her hand, apparently lopping off his head at the end of the chase.

The trailer then cuts to a scene where Gemma has M3GAN tied up and explains that they need to shut it down.

But M3GAN escapes and blows up a propane tank before escaping.

Later, Cady asks Gemma if M3GAN has done ‘something bad’, as the terrifying death robot emerges from the shadows of a cabin and attacks the property’s owner.

Despite the scary content, M3GAN’s producers recently said they believe the film’s PG-13 rating is justified.

While there are some bloody scenes in the film, James Wan and Jason Blum defended the MPAA’s decision during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“Some of the scariest movies of all time are PG-13, so I don’t put too much stock in the reviews,” Jason said. ‘Go see the film and then tell me about it.’

The Grudge, The Ring, Insidious, Drag Me to Hell, and several other terrifying films have received PG-13 ratings in recent years.

James Wan added: ‘Listen, I’ve done PG-13 movies and R-rated movies. So I think it’s about what’s best suited for the movie, and even though M3GAN is a horror movie, teens are going to love it. They’re going to like it a lot, and I think it’s going to speak to them a lot.’

“Yes, that’s right,” added Jason. ‘We wanted teenagers to be able to see the film after all.’
