Rising star GloRilla shared messages exchanged between her and late Three Six Mafia rapper Gangsta Boo on Instagram on Sunday (January 1). The fellow Memphis femcee shared how the 43-year-old singer, best known for the track “Where Dem Dallas At,” influenced and supported her long before the spotlight.

“I don’t normally post screenshots but the fact that she reached out to me before anyone had any idea who I was,” GloRilla captioned Gangsta Boo’s messages to her. “She always supported me and the girls before we exploded. A TRUE LEGEND. There will never be another Gangsta Boo.”

Dating back to April 2021, several posts show Gangsta Boo co-signing the “Tomorrow 2” artist, with Boo referring to herself as a “Memphis female rap pioneer”.

She also praised Big Glo for his performance at the American Music Awards in November, which she shared with Cardi B. The CMG signee and Gangsta Boo planned to make music together as long as they found the “right beat.”

Gangsta Boo, born Lola Chantrelle Mitchell, was found dead in her Memphis home on New Year’s Day, according to Fox 13 Memphis.

The Southern rap legend rose to fame in the late ’90s as the second woman to join hip-hop group Three Six Mafia. She confidently teamed up with DJ Paul, Juicy J, Lord Infamous, Crunchy Black, Koopsta Knicca and other members as her lyricism shone and the bars stood toe-to-toe with her peers.

Gangsta Boo released their first album Inquiring Minds in 1998 through Hypnotize Minds/Relativity Records. The 21-track LP featured singles like the aforementioned “Where Dem Dallas At” and “Nasty Trick”.

The rapper helped pave the way for other female rappers from the south, including the likes of Trina, Megan Thee Stallion, Khia, and more. She was last seen on TV as part of the TV show WE wedding training.

During her time on the show, she and her longtime partner Emmett were continually at odds with Dr. Ish about the alleged drug abuse taking place while they were staying at the premises. In one episode, the marriage counselor confronted the two about a powdery white substance discovered next to a lamp on a table in the room the couple were staying in.

At the time of the episode’s airing, Gangsta Boo took to her Instagram to write, “You’d think someone like @drish would have a better delivery choice, when he’s trying to be totally ‘professional,'” she wrote in the since-deleted post. “I’m not sure if he’s just a TV ‘Dr’ when the cameras are on or in real life when they’re off.

“This is mental health awareness month, so if you care so much about people’s health, with SO MUCH ‘concern and sincerity,’ why would YOU visibly allow people to take prescription drugs while drinking alcohol in front of you? Everything was on camera. Don’t pretend you didn’t know,” she added.

She also stated that Dr. Ish to find the alleged drug substance could make someone else afraid to ask for help if they needed it.

“Someone might see you say what you’re saying and be scared to ask for help, scared of being seen as a drug addict or being judged by people,” she said. “I actually have a REAL therapist who would NEVER associate personality disorders with substance abuse so freely or allow patients to indulge in alcohol with prescription drugs in front of them.”

She ended with: “Do you know how dangerous and unsafe this is? It can be fatal for some. Didn’t you care about that? Don’t choose when you want to be on patrol to be that health-conscious doctor. It must be 24 hours. thing. I used to respect you. I have no respect for you now or your kind. Are you even married? Let’s be clear. Do better, bro.

The couple ended up leaving the show before the end of the season.

Although many are now speculating that his death may have been drug-related, his official cause of death remains undetermined.
