Current Twitter CEO Elon Musk has declared that Twitter will promote “reasonable” skepticism of scientific data.
“Twitter’s new policy is to follow the science, which necessarily includes reasoned questioning of the science,” Musk wrote.
Many Twitter users joined in and suggested that the policy promoted the actual pursuit of scientific truth.
Evolutionary behavioral scientist Gad Saad seemed to sarcastically joke about the dogmatic way scientific experts were treated amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Musk responded by noting, “Anyone who says that to question them is to question science itself cannot be considered a scientist.”
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton tweeted: “Bad news for transgender extremism, greedy totalitarians and climate alarmists.”
Journalist David Martosko urged followers to recognize that Musk’s announcement has huge implications.
“Isn’t it remarkable that this is different from what we’ve seen for many years?” he asked. “I hope this also means that it will be acceptable to look at who is funding science and what kind of constraints this places on scientists.”
Mathematical physicist, economist and managing director of Thiel Capital, Eric Weinstein has expressed hope that the move could be a big change on a variety of issues.
“This. Changes. Everything. If true,” he wrote. “This is a 1000% commitment to biologists that they can stop *lying* about biological sex, healthy reproductive development, ‘herd immunity’, genetic differences between geographically separated populations, horse paste, Wuhan Inst. GoF, etc.?”

NASA Earth Cartography and Data Visualization Lead Joshua Stevens tweeted: “This is fair and reasonable. And if any scientists say otherwise, never again let them wax poetic about curiosity and wonder.”
Some Twitter users appeared to condemn Musk’s statement.
New York Times contributor Wajahat Ali tweeted that Musk’s post was, “Something a really dumb person would tweet.”
Journalist Ashton Pittman tweeted: “By ‘reasoned questioning’ Elon Musk means clown car conspiracy theory drivel.”
Elon’s post appeared to be a thinly-veiled critique of dogmatism amid the COVID-19 pandemic, especially of the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci.

On the same day, Musk announced that the Twitter platform team previously “had an internal Slack channel ironically called the ‘Fauci Fan Club'”. platform.
Musk also tweeted a statement that called Fauci’s institutional responsibility into question.
“Almost no one seems to realize that the NIH’s chief of bioethics – the person who must ensure that Fauci behaves ethically – is his wife,” Musk wrote.
