Taking a chance on yourself

Next week, Jupiter will enter Aries, the Sun will move into Capricorn and the winter solstice together with the new Moon will accompany us through the darkest days of the year. What awaits us on the other side of these transits is something new, something daring, something that calls us to the next chapter in life.

Jupiter enters Aries

On December 20, 2022, Jupiter will move into the fire and independent sign of Aries, where it will remain until the following May.

The planet of luck, expansion, growth and happiness, Jupiter is the largest entity outside the Sun in our solar system. This immensity corresponds to the kind of growth that continually invites us to experience as it travels through the zodiac.

Aries, as the first of the zodiac, is the excitement that sparks ideas and sets every step in motion from there. It is inspiration, initiation and determination.

While in Aries, Jupiter brings expansion of our personal courage, growth in our leadership qualities, and rejuvenation of our inspiration and vitality. Consider this moment of fortune and luck through action.

Jupiter spent May through October 2022 in Aries before retrograde through Pisces. Allow yourself to explore the themes that presented themselves in your life during this time, especially anything related to new ideas, initiations or new chapters. How have you grown or changed during that time? What was exciting for you? Did any desire come up? What did you initiate during these months?

With Jupiter’s return to Aries in December, we have a second opportunity to jump in whatever direction is calling our name. Over the next 5 months, our acts of courage, independence, leadership and initiation will be our tickets to the beautiful opportunities, abundance and growth that Jupiter wants to shower us with.

Winter Solstice

December 21, 2022 will mark the sacred day of the Winter Solstice for the Northern Hemisphere (and the Summer Solstice for the Southern Hemisphere). The word “solstice” is derived from the Latin words Sun (sun) and sister (stand still). It is on this day that the Earth’s axis reaches its maximum inclination in relation to the Sun, giving rise to the shortest and darkest day of the year.

Ancient mystics and astrologers speak of the time around the Winter Solstice as a season of initiation with crossed thresholds of consciousness, opportunities to connect with the spirit within, and the opening of new avenues for self-realization.

Capricorn season begins

It’s on the darkest day of the year that the Sun moves into the practical and grounded sign of Capricorn, marking the beginning of its season. When that happens, we have the opportunity to become our own light, be our own warmth and believe in ourselves and say yes to ourselves and our inner calling above all else.

Capricorn is symbolized by the sea goat, which represents a bridge between spirit and matter. It is the half-fish that can descend as deep into our inner oceans of psychic energy as its twin brother, the half-goat, can scale the heights of outer attainment.

Any season of the zodiac that begins when the Earth shifts into a new phase represents new beginnings. It’s a new chapter in our lives with core themes of responsibility, success and grounding our goals, visions and dreams into tangible reality. It is a time that reminds us that self-responsibility is a prerequisite for achieving our dreams.

New Moon in Capricorn

December 23, 2022 brings our last new moon of 2022. With the Moon joining the Sun in Capricorn, we have our wants (Sun) and needs (Moon) coming together, ushering in a new chapter of our lives.

As the name suggests, a new moon is the start of a new lunar cycle. Meeting with us just two days after the Earth began a new cycle and the Sun began a new season, this new Moon is filled with multiple sparks and layers of early energy.

Regardless of what your Sun sign is, within each of us is each of the twelve signs of the zodiac. And as the cosmos dives in and takes on the lens of this ambitious and grounded sign, the Capricorn spark that lives within each of us is also activated.

We can know the parts of ourselves that are innately responsible, the parts of ourselves that know we are a match for the dreams that are in our hearts, no matter how big they seem. We can know and embody the self that is determined, ambitious, and patient. And we can lean on ourselves as we methodically approach, plan, and structure the path of this new beginning.

This new moon acts as a gateway to our next endeavour, standing at the transition point of a new year, a new energy and a new chapter in our lives. This is an auspicious opportunity to sit down with whatever intentions, goals, or dreams you may have for the year ahead and let the Capricorn within you get to work.

your invitation

Carl Jung coined the term “synchronicity,” a concept that explores the interconnectedness between the individual and the cosmos. It was derived from ancient texts and described when the inner world of the self and the outer world of apparent reality merged. This is when synchronicity would occur. A book that comes into your life after declaring your interest in a new subject. A friend calling you right after entering your mind. Numbers or symbols that speak a deeper meaning to your heart appearing just when you needed it. Multiple astrological transits – each a cosmic invitation inviting you in the same direction of courage, to say yes to yourself, to new beginnings and devotion to your path ahead – taking place as we look forward to a new year.

Astrology is one of the many ways in which we are fortunate enough to decode the language of this inexplicable force of existence. As we looked at the astrology of the week, it could only be compared to each of us getting a big round of applause.

Synchronicities can be reminders that we are part of something bigger. A divine orchestration of movement and flow. A force of growth and evolution with which we are one. As this week’s cosmos invites you to risk yourself, let it remind you that you are part of something bigger, that you are supported and loved.

As Jupiter joins Aries, allow yourself to get excited about your life again. This is fire and fire coming together – pure inspiration, a thirst to become and a desire to be fully alive.

And as the Sun and Moon move into Capricorn, bringing with them the Winter Solstice, allow yourself to anchor that excitement into your body and into realistic planning. There is no dream too big, no mountain too steep. Capricorn is the sea goat who is literally built to climb the highest mountains, and Aries is the unquenchable belief in yourself that will take you to the top.
