Pelé's daughter thanks her for spending 'one more night' with him while thanking the hospital in São Paulo

Pelé’s daughter took to social media on Christmas Eve to thank the hospital for taking care of her father.

The Brazil legend’s family has gathered at the hospital as his condition worsens – with his daughter pledging to stay by his side as the 82-year-old receives care after the cancer progresses.

Kely Nascimento shared a photo on Sunday at the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in São Paulo, Brazil, with an emotional caption.

Pele's daughter, Kely Nascimento, posted a photo of her family on Instagram on Christmas Eve alongside a post thanking hospital staff for looking after the great 82-year-old.

She took to her Instagram profile again later in the day to express her gratitude to the hospital’s medical staff.

‘We always have a lot to be thankful for, even spending Christmas in the hospital we are aware of the privilege it is to be in a hospital like @hosp_einstein’, she wrote.

‘Seeing our father treated by these super competent and extremely affectionate professionals.

She also shared a photo with her family earlier in the day as they spent Christmas in the hospital.

‘Not a moment passes that we do not forget this privilege.

‘Even in sadness, we just have to be grateful. Thank you for being together, thank you for all your love, thank you for being here with him now.

‘Merry Christmas. Lots of health, lots of love, lots of joy, lots of laughter and lots of passion, today and always, for all of you.

‘One more night together with him.’

Both Christmas photos included Pelé’s son, Edinho.

The Brazil legend had a tumor removed from his colon in September 2021, but was admitted to hospital on November 29.

A hospital statement released earlier this week said Pele needed further care “related to kidney and heart dysfunction”.

The three-time world champion’s daughter confirmed that family members would spend Christmas with him in hospital and so would his grandchildren.

Pelé’s daughter has been active on social media and posted an image on her Instagram profile on Saturday, sitting next to Edinho and two of her children in the hospital.

‘He (Edson) is here’, she captioned the photo, adding in a hashtag ‘I’m not leaving, no one is going to get me out of here’.

She also previously posted a touching photo of her father in a hospital bed as they enjoy “another night together” as he continues his battle with cancer.

‘We are still here, in the fight and in the faith. Another night together’, wrote his daughter on Instagram, next to a photo of Pelé being hugged in bed. Pelé’s granddaughter Sophia can also be seen in the photo.

Along with the heartbreaking photo, a video was shared showing Pele sleeping in his bed as the family chatted with him.

Pelé is widely considered the greatest player in Brazil’s history and was able to watch his country’s World Cup campaign in Qatar despite being in hospital.

He burst onto the global stage aged 17 at the 1958 World Cup, helping Brazil claim the first of their record five wins, before also winning the 1962 and 1970 World Cups with the national team.

Pelé was able to follow the World Cup closely around his treatment and the 82-year-old also watched the tournament final from his bed.

After praising Brazil despite their quarter-final exit, he once again took to social media to congratulate Lionel Messi and Argentina after their dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over France.

‘Today, football continues to tell its story, as always, in an enthralling way. Messi winning his first World Cup, as his trajectory deserved”, wrote Pelé on Instagram.

‘My dear friend, [Kylian] Mbappé, scoring four goals in a final. What a gift it was to watch this spectacle for the future of our sport.’

Mbappé and Brazil’s Neymar are among those who have sent well wishes to the football icon.

Concern for Pele grew last month when news broke that he was being transferred to end-of-life care, something his daughters were quick to deny.

Speaking to Fantástico about her father last month, Kely explained: ‘About three weeks ago he got Covid. He is vaccinated, with all the vaccines, but because of the cancer medicine, the chemotherapy, which is fragile, he got a lung infection.

‘That’s why he went to the hospital, because of the lung infection. Is he serious? It’s serious, because he’s a certain age, he’s being treated for cancer.

Flavia, his other daughter, explained how the hospital is the best place for Pelé to receive the care he needs.

She said: ‘In the hospital, he is better assisted. But he’s not in ICU, he’s in a regular room. So he’s not at risk. As a person with more delicate health, it’s better to be in the hospital.’

The hospital provided an update on Pele’s condition earlier this week, detailing that he now needs care for heart and kidney dysfunction and his family is by his side.
