TCU’s football team arrived in Arizona ahead of the Fiesta Bowl, landing at Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport on Friday afternoon.

After the flight, TCU technician Sonny Dykes and offensive lineman Wes Harris briefly spoke to reporters about the upcoming College Football Playoff game against Michigan.

Here’s what they said about the Wolverines:

TCU coach Sonny Dykes talks about Michigan’s style of play

When you look at Michigan, obviously you have the Big Ten champion, which normally Big Ten football is made up of big strong people. You win games normally won and lost up front. Michigan has it all.

They also have players with very good skills. The quarterback (JJ McCarthy) is a very good player. Very impressed with it.

They will try to rule football. It will be important for us to do everything we can to stop the running game.

Defensively, the same thing, built attack, very powerful football team. Two excellent defensive tackles. Really good pass rushers off the edge. Linebackers are good, and a long athletic secondary. So, very good football team.

A bit of contrasting styles. We’re a bit more of a speed-dependent team. But I think what made our team special is that we are a fast team and also a very physical team. Our goal is always to try to dominate the line of scrimmage and win the line of scrimmage.

It will be a big challenge for us on Saturday. But we are looking forward to the challenge. I think it’s going to be really important for us to be able to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the football. It will be a challenge. But again, our guys are looking forward to it, excited about it.

I think, like I said, our team is known for its speed. But I really think this team is a physical, tough, tough-minded football team, and we’ve had a lot of success this year.

TCU coach Sonny Dykes talks about Michigan’s defense

Yes, as I said before, two excellent defensive tackles. Guys who look good up front do a good job playing with their hands. Really good job, big strong guys, staying in the gaps. Really gap style defense.

What I like about their defense is that the guys really play well together. They do their job consistently. They are in the right place at the right time. They play with good technique. It has a good scheme.

They are a very solid defensive football team. They don’t give up on a ton of big plays. They try to make you win whatever you earn.

For us, it always starts with our ability to manage football. It’s going to be important for us to do that. I have a lot of confidence in forwards, guys like Wes [Harris] here to be able to physically play up front and open holes. If we do that, normally our passing game has a chance to get the ball upfield and get it to some guys who can make plays.

As I said before, we are a fast football team. Our guys like to shoot the field. And we will have to make a lot of contested one-on-one receptions in this game. That’s what great football games often come down to, which team can win the one-on-one battles and make the defensive receptions and defensive plays.

You turn the tape on and I don’t think they have a soft spot in their defense.

Then it will be fun. I know we’re excited to get out there and show what we can do. But it’s also big for TCU. I don’t think we’ve been on the map or on such a large scale in a long time, so we’re excited to get out there and show what we can do and show what we can do against an opponent like this.

More or less like I said, they are a very good football team. I don’t think they have any weak links on the defensive end of the ball. So we’re excited to tackle them.
