Protect water resources
Robert Knight correctly understood Lee’s real estate development plan on Parker Road in his column. Our local springs are polluted and depleted. These are symptoms of a much broader problem in Florida. Among them are inadequate treatment of wastewater and excessive pumping from Florida aquifers.
The Gainesville Community Utility has historically shown positive thoughts in many of its capital plans, but there is more that can and should be done to conserve our water resources. Creating new groundwater recharge wetlands and wells on Lee’s land would be a great opportunity to provide such protection.
Also, as Dr. Knight pointed out, well-designed wetland city parks offer excellent recreational opportunities for the general public, such as hiking, wildlife observation, and photography.
Let’s understand it correctly and protect our water resources for the next generation.

Party of law and order?
My heart is broken from the weight of yet another 21 American innocents who have fallen into the bloody masses as they live their daily lives. Another 21 victims of elected Republican officials are too weak to counter the spread of guns in the United States.
How ironic it is that Sun’s letter writer (May 24) defended the Republican Party as a “party of law and order” when 19 children were shot in Texas. My dear American Republican abandoned that claim when it attacked the Capitol on January 6 and planned to overturn the elections, when all states found it legitimate and true. did.
The Republican Party is no longer a “law and order” party, but rather a party of turmoil and sanctioned murder. The Republicans have made this choice. Their right to all weapons clearly outweighs my right to life and freedom, my right to the grocery store, without fear of being shot dead in the produce corridors. Their rights to weapons take precedence over the pursuit of happiness for yet another 19 school children.
And don’t spit out the constitutional right to exercise the right to arm! Did our founders envision high-capacity automated weapons?Ask elected representatives where they stand on these issues before voting your Selection.

Use accurate words
In the “Sound Off” section, someone recently said: “A term limit is required for each elected civil servant.” We already have a “term” limit. In most cases it is 2, 4, or 6 years. What this person seems to be claiming is a “service” limitation, that is, a limitation of working in a particular public office.
We need to be accurate in public discourse. Other examples include “free” community colleges. There is no free one. Perhaps the phrase “taxpayer-provided” community college may be used by politicians and the media.
Another example is to “cancel” a student’s debt. Pouf will disappear, right? Wrong. Perhaps it’s a taxpayer-provided student loan forgiveness.
Canceling a federal student loan costs the federal government hundreds of billions of dollars. And finally, it is the general public who submits the bill. According to the Responsible Federal Budget Committee, “cancelling” a federal student loan of up to $ 10,000 per borrower costs the federal government (that is, taxpayers) about $ 245 billion. “Cancelled” federal student loans are immediately added to federal debt.
Requests to All Potential Writers: Promise to use the correct language to provide better information to Sun’s readers.

Right to privacy
Sit here over a cup of coffee on Sunday morning and read the article, “If Roe collapses, Florida could be considered a’shelter’for abortion.” I’m trying to imagine a country where the majority of the states have had an abortion. illegal.
Well, the truth is that it’s almost easier for me to imagine this. Abortion, which grew up in a conservative and restrictive religious group in north-central Florida, was out of the question even to mention. As a result of this environment, some have chosen some of the most dreadful and dangerous abortions.
From my experience, I have come to believe that women’s right to privacy, including abortion, is essential. My fears are due to the extreme nature of today’s political situation, and the 1980 amendment to the right to privacy in the State Constitution (including abortion) could be retested.
For conservative evangelicals who believe that abortion is wrong, you either rely on forgiveness or “all natural persons have the right to be freed from the government’s invasion of their private lives. Do you waive the constitutional rights of the state that states “?” ??

Same problem
A recent letter writer wrote, “Why do we vote for them?” Only Republicans are listed. Right now, justice is justice, and my list only includes Democrats who match the same issue.
1. Post Office Rename: Both Jared Huffman and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez want to rename the post office in the district. is there a problem?
2. Go to the South Border: Congressman Javi Martínez and Vice President Kamala Harris used the border as a photograph. While this administration hasn’t had as many Democrats as the last photo session, let’s praise President Joe Biden, who hasn’t gone to the border. everything!!
3. Percentage of missed votes: The information of the Republican Senator mentioned was very incorrect. He missed 5% in the 116th Congress and is now 4.7% in the 117th Congress. Bernie Sanders missed 57.3% in the 116th Congress and 10.1% so far in the 117th Congress. So who missed the worst voting record right now?
For reference, the Republican Senator’s 11 proposals mistakenly accused him of “gradually abolishing Medicare and social security” and “increasing taxes.” That’s not true, and this plan has not been accepted or accepted by the Republicans.

Remember
War Dead Memorial Day was all men and women of the army who died for our freedom: mothers, fathers, spouses, brothers, sons and daughters, incredible friends and patriots. It is to remember and praise men and women.
We thank you for your sacrifice and stop to remember what you lost. Pause at 3pm on Monday to remember them all.
Pause, reflect, respect and remember the people we lost and the lives they lived in. Thanks to bravery, we are a country of freedom.
